Living Well in Idaho Workshop

A free Chronic Disease Management Program. If you are struggling with an ongoing health condition (Pain, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, or any other chronic condition) then this course can help! This workshop was developed by Stanford University to help you manage your health.

Breastfeeding Class

Taught by International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants, this one evening class will help educate expectant parents with the art of breastfeeding and its benefits to both mom and baby. Learn how to have a positive experience and get breastfeeding off to a good start with proper latch-on techniques, nursing positions, engorgement prevention, as well as expression and storage of breast milk.

April 11 – Wednesday

First Aid for Children Class

Madison Memorial offers a first aid for children class that is free to children 9-14 years of age. This course is taught by a certified Basic Life Support instructor and helps children understand general principles of first aid and safety. The class covers child safety, general principles of first aid, finding the problem, the emergency call, choking adult/child/infant, allergic reactions and epinephrine pen, seizures, shock, mouth and tooth injuries, head injuries, broken bones, sprains, bruises, burns, electrocution, eye injuries, bites, stings, and poisoning emergencies. Pre-registration is required.

April 14 – Saturday

Daycare Provider Class

This course is designed to meet the regulatory and credentialed training requirements for child care workers in all 50 states. The class teaches basic first aid, CPR, and AED skills for children. It also provides training primarily for those who are responsible for children, and for anyone who wants to learn basic pediatric first aid and obtain a Heartsaver course completion card.

Childbirth Class

This all day Saturday class is taught by a Certified International Childbirth Educator and it includes breathing and relaxation techniques, the labor partner's role, the process of labor and delivery, medication choices during labor, the post-partum period care of Mom, and newborn care. A tour of the Family Maternity Center at Madison Memorial is also included.

Insulin Resistance Class

Our monthly Insulin Resistance education classes discuss the cause and treatment of Insulin Resistance and Diabetes. During the class a registered dietitian develops an individualized meal plan is developed for each person with Insulin Resistance who is attending. To attend the class, there is a $25.00 fee per person diagnosed with Insulin Resistance or Diabetes.  Other family members or support people are encouraged to attend free of charge.

Childbirth Refresher Class

This one night class is ideal for those who have previously had a baby, but want to refresh their childbirth knowledge before their next delivery. This class will review breathing and relaxation techniques, labor partner role, labor/delivery, information on sibling relationships, and a tour of the Family Maternity Center. This class is taught by a Certified International Childbirth Educator.

Community Health Forum - Alzheimer's & Memory Care

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia among older adults, affects parts of the brain that control thinking, remembering, and making decisions. It is estimated that as many as 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease. Our speaker will be Michelle Webster, BA, LPN, a registered instructor who runs a support group for families with Alzheimer’s. Michelle has been working with Alzheimer’s patients for several years, and currently works with Idaho Health & Hospice.

She will be discussing:
• What is Alzheimer’s and/or Dementia?
• Signs & Symptoms
• Behaviors & Patient Management
• Available Treatments & Care.

          HypnoBirthing Class

This five-week course is ideal for those who are looking for a natural approach to childbirth. This class will teach techniques for relaxation and visualization. You will learn how to develop a calm approach to pregnancy that will enable you to work in harmony with your body and your baby and prepare you for a shorter, safer, easier, more comfortable birth for you and your baby. This class can be taken any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy and is taught by a Certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner.

March for Babies

March for Babies, the March of Dimes’ largest fundraising event, works to raise awareness of the problem of premature birth and raise funds for the March of Dimes improve the health of babies by inviting participants to team-up and walk. While Idaho’s premature birth rate of 10.2 percent is lower than the national average, it has risen 17 percent since 1990. Preterm birth is the leading cause of newborn death in the United States and can have life-long consequences for babies. People can sign up today at www.marchforbabies.org and start a team with co-workers, family or friends.

Rexburg Relay for Life

Relay for Life is an overnight, relay-style event sponsored by the American Cancer Society to raise awareness about cancer and raise funds for both local services and cancer research. Because cancer never sleeps, neither do we!) After the opening ceremonies, members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event. Participants can enjoy food, games, and other activies as fundraising opportunities. It is a great family-friendly environment for the entire community as well as some fun entertainment. Because it’s a Relay, you’re not required to be there the entire time…but it’s so fun, you’ll probably find it hard to leave! There are many moments that create the Relay experience like the Survivors Lap, team laps, Luminaria Ceremony, Fight Back Ceremony, and more.
